Aquatic therapy is rehabilitation performed in water. Blairstown Physical Therapy Center is equipped with a heated pool for patients who would benefit from this type of treatment. Aquatic therapy uses the physical properties of water--specifically gravity, buoyancy, hydrostatic pressure, and viscosity--to enable patients to heal quicker and with less pain than with land activities.

Aquatic therapy is the safest, most progressive form of rehabilitation because it takes place in a gravity-neutral environment and decreases impact and trauma on weight-bearing joints. Weightlessness allows for safe, early movement of areas of recent surgical repair--accelerating the healing process.

Aquatic therapy benefits individuals suffering from sprains and strains, tendonitis and bursitis, degenerative diseases, fibromyalgia, repetitive strain disorder, sports injuries, arthritis, back pain, postural deviations, multiple sclerosis, fractures, and recent surgeries. Each individual's program is based on his or her own abilities and goals. One does not need to be a swimmer to participate in an aquatic rehabilitation program.
