Aquatics
Aquatic therapy uses the properties of water to provide a safe, therapeutic environment. Aquatic therapy uses the physical properties of water--specifically gravity, buoyancy, hydrostatic pressure, and viscosity--to enable patients to safely increase range of motion, strength, flexibility and endurance.
Aquatic therapy is the safest, most progressive form of rehabilitation because it takes place in a gravity-neutral environment and decreases impact and trauma on weight-bearing joints. Weightlessness allows for safe, early movement of areas of recent surgical repair--accelerating the healing process.
Aquatic therapy can benefit patients with the following diagnoses:
Total knee replacement
- Total hip replacement
- ACL repair
- Post-surgical shoulder
- Fibromyalgia
- Chronic low back pain
- Post-surgical lumbar
- Osteoporosis
- Arthritis
- Lymphedema
